Poet Natasha Tretheway to Be Featured at Pitt April 5

PITTSBURGH-Poet Natasha Tretheway will give a free public reading at the University of Pittsburgh as part of the Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series at 8:30 p.m. April 5 in Room 125, Frick Fine Arts Building Auditorium, Schenley Drive, Oakland.

Tretheway is author of Bellocq's Ophelia (Graywolf, 2002) and Domestic Work (Graywolf, 2000), which won the 1999 Cave Canem Prize. Her third collection, Native Guard, is forthcoming from Houghton Mifflin. Her poems have appeared in such journals and anthologies as American Poetry Review, Callaloo, Kenyon Review, The Southern Review, New England Review, Gettysburg Review, and The Best American Poetry 2000 and 2003.

She has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Study Center, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Bunting Fellowship Program of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.

Tretheway is an associate professor of English and creative writing at Emory University. During the 2005-06 academic year, she holds the Lehman-Brady Joint Chair Professorship of Documentary and American Studies at Duke University and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

The 2005-06 Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series is cosponsored by the Wyndham Garden Hotel-University Place, the Pitt Department of Classics, University of Pittsburgh Book Center, and University of Pittsburgh Press.
