Remembering Pitt: Homecoming 2005 Festivities to Be Held Oct. 20 through 24

Weekend to include a career-networking event, fireworks and laser show, school reunions, African American Alumni Council Banquet, and Panther football game

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh will celebrate Remembering Pitt: Homecoming 2005 with alumni, students, and friends from Oct. 20 through 24. Festivities include a fireworks and laser show, a homecoming extravaganza, a career-networking event, school reunions, and the Oct. 22 football game between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Syracuse Orangemen.

Homecoming festivities begin Oct. 20 with Legacy Laureate Day when the University recognizes alumni who have excelled personally or professionally. From 6 to 8 p.m., laureates will take part in "Pathway to Professions: Third Annual Career Networking Event" in Alumni Hall's Connolly Ballroom, 4227 Fifth Ave.

The free Pitt Program Council fireworks and laser show, a spectacular start to the weekend, will be held on Bigelow Boulevard at 9 p.m. Oct. 21, featuring colorful explosions across the boulevard between the Cathedral of Learning and William Pitt Union (WPU).

The outdoor show is followed by Pitt's free annual Homecoming Extravaganza in the WPU at 10 p.m. There will be video games, the dance machine "Dance Dance Revolution," individual performers, and more.

The African American Alumni Council (AAAC) will host Sankofa. It includes a welcome home reception at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel at 8 p.m. Oct 21. Admission is a donation to AAAC's scholarship fund. The AAAC also will host an awards banquet at 7 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel Oct. 22. The group will honor Jack Daniel, vice provost for undergraduate studies and former dean of students, as well as recognizing six people as Distinguished Alumni. Other AAAC events include the AAAC Marketplace, a praise and worship service, and Sunday brunch.

Additional homecoming festivities include: '50s reunion dinner; The AAAC's Apple Project (community service at Pittsburgh Public Schools); College of Business Administration/Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business "51+ Luncheon"; Freshman Family Weekend; School of Engineering Reunion Dinner; School of Dental Medicine welcome reception; Pitt Theatre Arts presentation of Mrs. Shakespeare: Will's First and Last Love; and the School of Dental Medicine continuing education lecture.

A weekend highlight is the 9:30 a.m. Saturday Panther Pregame Party sponsored by the Pitt Alumni Association at Heinz Field. Groups staffing information tables include AAAC; Alumnae Council; Department of Biological Sciences; Office of Career Services (Pitt Career Network); Schools of Education, General Studies, Dental Medicine, Medicine, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Information Sciences, Engineering, and Social Work; Graduate Schools of Public Health and Public and International Affairs; '50s Reunion Group; Freshman Family Weekend; Metro Pittsburgh Pitt Club; Pitt Band Alumni Council; and The Pitt News.
