PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh has recorded its best fundraising year in history, raising $124 million in gifts and pledges in fiscal year 2005, bringing the total raised in Pitt's Discover a World of Possibilities billion-dollar capital campaign to $815 million.

The new record-setting amount is $15 million above the campaign's FY 2005 goal. In addition, the University's campaign had its best cash-in and individual giving fundraising year ever, with $103 million and $51.8 million, respectively.

The capital campaign also tallied its 100,000th donor: Valerie Hopkins, a 2005 graduate of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and the School of Information Sciences.

The University's fundraising success is tied to the broad-based support of University alumni and friends: To date, 102,702 donors have supported the Discover a World of Possibilities campaign, which has funded 287 new endowed scholarship funds, 26 new endowed fellowship funds, and 65 new endowed faculty positions, in addition to supporting educational and research programs, student-life initiatives, and facilities.
