Compensation Committee Approves Officer Salaries

PITTSBURGH—The Compensation Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees has approved a 2.25 percent salary adjustment for Chancellor Patrick Gallagher and five officers who hold key leadership positions within the University.

This salary adjustment, effective January 2019, is consistent with the cost-of-living and merit increases applied to the University’s faculty and staff earlier this year. 

Gallagher’s 2019 base salary is set at $555,000. This action also included five additional officers of the University: Kathy Humphrey, senior vice chancellor for engagement and secretary of the Board of Trustees, $418,575; Arthur Levine, senior vice chancellor for the health sciences and John and Gertrude Petersen Dean of the School of Medicine, $891,667; Robert Rutenbar, senior vice chancellor for research, $414,600; Greg Scott, senior vice chancellor for business and operations, $350,375 (Scott also received a 1.5 percent market adjustment above his 2018 base salary); and Geovette Washington, senior vice chancellor and chief legal officer, $418,575.

The committee also approved a salary adjustment of $5,600 for these officers, which reflects the discontinuation of the senior executive vehicle program. The program, approved by the Board’s Compensation Committee in 2002, will be eliminated in 2019.

The salaries of Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Ann E. Cudd, Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Hari Sastry, Chief Investment Officer Greg Schuler and Treasurer Paul Lawrence were not eligible for consideration, as the University hired these officers after the start of the fiscal year.
