Pitt Hosts Annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival March 19
PITTSBURGH—Music from all over Latin America and the aroma of Latin cuisine will fill the air at the University of Pittsburgh’s 36th Annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Wesley W. Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. The event is free and open to the public.
Hosted by Pitt’s Center for Latin American Studies, the event will feature arts and crafts; food from a number of local Latin American restaurants, such as Adolfo’s, La Palapa, and AJ’s Burger & Peruvian Chicken; as well as performances by Pitt student groups, including the Brazil Nuts, Panther Tango Club, and Spanish Club.
Last year, a festival goer described it as the “best and largest event in the region featuring Latin American and Caribbean culture,” adding, “It makes me feel like I’m back home in Colombia!”
Also on hand will be representatives from organizations such as Harmony of the Andes, a nonprofit group that supports education to Bolivian families; Building New Hope, whose members collaborate with Central Americans to link people to education and economic opportunities; and Casa San Jose, a community organization that welcomes Latino immigrants to the region with chances for civic and social engagement.
Festival cosponsors include the University Center for International Studies; Panoramas at the University of Pittsburgh; the Year of the Humanities in the University; Goya Foods, Inc.; Café Con Leche; and the Latin American Cultural Union.
