PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh is one of 50 higher-education institutions highlighted in The Princeton Review’s Colleges That Create Futures: 50 Schools That Launch Careers By Going Beyond the Classroom.

The book features only about two percent of America’s approximately 2,600 four-year colleges. The schools are not ranked and are in alphabetical order.

“Simply put, the University of Pittsburgh and the other colleges we chose for this book are stellar at putting the ‘hire’ in ‘higher education,’” said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s senior vice president, publisher, and author of Colleges That Create Futures. “We commend these schools for the extraordinary opportunities they are giving their students for practical, hands-on learning that complements their academic experiences.”

The book’s profile on Pitt recognizes the University’s Living Learning Communities and Outside the Classroom Curriculum that “help create engaged student learning communities while preparing students for careers in a globally interconnected world.” The profile highlights Pitt’s study-abroad programs, University Honors College, Internship Guarantee, and Freshmen Guarantee, which assures “admission into the appropriate graduate or professional school when the student is accepted as an undergraduate.”

Inclusion in the guide is based on The Princeton Review’s survey of administrators at hundreds of universities between 2013 and 2015 and of 18,000 students attending the schools. The company also conducted 200 interviews with current faculty, administrators, and alumni of schools. Editors considered the colleges’ career-center services; internship, externship, cooperative learning, and collaborative research opportunities; and student engagement in community service and study-abroad programs.
