Pitt Hosts Critically Acclaimed Writer Emily Raboteau Nov. 7
PITTSBURGH—Writer Emily Raboteau will deliver a reading from her award-winning works of literature at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the University of Pittsburgh’s Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland. This free, public event is part of the University’s 2013-14 Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series. 
The daughter of an African American father and a Caucasian mother, Raboteau’s writing draws heavily upon her experiences as an American of biracial ancestry. She is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir Searching for Zion: The Quest for Home in the African Diaspora (Atlantic Monthly Press, 2013), which was named one of the Most Anticipated Books of 2013 by The Huffington Post and was the grand prize winner of the 2013 New York Book Festival. She also is the author of the novel The Professor’s Daughter (Henry Holt, Picador, 2005) as well as the forthcoming book Endurance.
Raboteau has contributed her work to the anthologies Mixed: An Anthology of Short Stories on the Multiracial Experience (W.W. Norton & Company, 2006), as well as the 2003 edition of Best American Short Stories (Houghton Mifflin). Her work also has been published in such notable literary publications as Guernica, The Missouri Review, Narrative Magazine, The Oxford American, Tin House, and Transition Magazine, among others.
Raboteau’s honors and distinctions include the Pushcart Prize and the Chicago Tribune’s Nelson Algren Award for Short Fiction. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Howard Foundation. 
A native of Princeton, N.J., Raboteau earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree at New York University. She lives in Brooklyn and serves as a professor of English at the City College of New York.
