Pitt Schools and Programs Score in U.S. News’ Best Graduate Schools Rankings

PITTSBURGH—In the newly released statistics from U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools, a number of University of Pittsburgh schools and programs have excelled in the guidebook rankings, according to the publication’s 2013 edition. These rankings appear in highlights form in the Best Graduate Schools book, available for newsstand purchase on April 9, and for purchase online; visit www.usnews.com/grad2014 for more information. 

In Medical Specialties, Pitt moved up from No. 8 last year to No. 4 this year in Women’s Health, and from No. 9 last year to No. 6 this year in Pediatrics. And in Best Online Options, Pitt was ranked No. 9 in Nursing.

Within Library and Information Studies, last ranked in 2009, Pitt maintained its No. 10 standing in The Top Schools category and scored high within Library and Information Studies Specialties, ranking No. 3 in Health Librarianship, No. 4 in Information Systems, No. 6 in Archives and Preservation, and No. 10 in Digital Librarianship. Within Social Sciences and Humanities, also last ranked in 2009, Pitt advanced from No. 36 to No. 30 this year in Psychology, tied with NYU, Penn State, UC-Irvine, Colorado, Iowa, Oregon, and Vanderbilt, and from No. 39 to No. 36 in Economics, tied with Arizona, Arizona State, and Vanderbilt.

In The Top Schools of Medicine—Research, Pitt’s School of Medicine ranked No. 16, tied with Cornell; and in The Top Schools of Medicine—Primary Care, the Pitt medical school was No. 24, tied with Baylor, Brown, Johns Hopkins, and Ohio State. In The Top Schools of Education, Pitt was ranked No. 32, tied with the College of William and Mary, Purdue, Illinois-Chicago, and Iowa.

In addition, the Swanson School of Engineering continued its trajectory within the top 50 in The Top Schools of Engineering category, advancing from No. 47 last year to No. 45 this year, tied with Lehigh and Notre Dame.
