LECTURES

1/25 M. Najeeb Shafiq, assistant professor in Pitt’s Department of Administrative and Policy Studies and the Department of Economics, will deliver a talk titled “Education, Employment and Protest Participation in the Arab World,” from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., Room 3911, Posvar Hall, 230 Bouquet St., Oakland. 1/25 Kathleen Short, research economist for the U.S. Census Bureau, will deliver a free lecture titled “The Supplemental Poverty Measure: Taking Account of Taxes and Transfers” at noon at Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems, 20th floor, Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. 1/26 Award-winning poets Wayne Koestenbaum, Distinguished Professor of English at CUNY Graduate Center, and Myung Mi Kim, professor of English at the University at Buffalo, will give a free reading as part of the Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series at 8:30 p.m., Frick Fine Arts Building auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.
