10/14 Pitt’s Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership and Graduate School of Public and International Affairs with the Institute for Social Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University will present “Darell Hammond: KaBoom! How One Man Built a Movement” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Schenley Ballroom, Holiday Inn Pittsburgh University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. Hammond is the founder and CEO of KaBOOM! a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to ensuring play space for children.  John Fetterman, the mayor of Braddock, Pa., is the featured respondent for the lecture. 10/15 Pitt’s European Union Center of Excellence/European Studies Center will host a French Immersion Institute from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 5200 Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. The institute is for area secondary school French teachers to maintain or improve their language skills, to develop an understanding of French culture around the world, and to share relevant teaching strategies.
