PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre presents As You Like It, one of Shakespeare’s most engaging comedies. This fresh, contemporary production runs from March 31 to April 10 in Pitt’s Charity Randall Theatre, 4301 Forbes Ave., Oakland. Performances are at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Set in the 21st century, As You Like It leads theater-goers on a refreshing escape from their technology-laden lives into a world where strangers become friends, lovers learn to woo, and families reunite, all without the assistance of cell phones, apps, or Facebook. Shakespeare’s language and wit come to life in the production, directed by Pittsburgh native Sam Turich. It features original music by Pitt student composers and a spectacular dance number.
Turich, known throughout the region for his acting and directorial work, uses a cast of 16 actors—a blend of students and professionals—including Pitt teaching artist Ken Bolden as the melancholic Jacques. Joseph Gourley, based out of New York City, designed the set.
Tickets are $25 general admission; $20 for Pitt faculty, staff, and alumni; $15 for senior citizens; and $12 for students. For more information, call 412-624-PLAY or visit www.play.pitt.edu.
Shakespeare-in-the-Schools, the educational outreach component of Pitt’s Department of Theatre Arts, will offer a student matinee performance of As You Like It at 10 a.m. March 31 in the Charity Randall Theatre. Tickets are $8 per student; chaperone tickets are free. For more information on the matinee, e-mail sits@pitt.edu.
