FILM 

3/23            The Pittsburgh Consortium for Adoption Studies, in conjunction with Pitt’s Asian Studies Center, Film Studies Program, and Women’s Studies Program, will present the film In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee (Deann Borshay Liem, 2010), at 7:30 p.m., 349 Cathedral of Learning, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland. LECTURES 

3/17            John W. Fisher, a professor emeritus of civil engineering at Lehigh University, will deliver the lecture, “Fatigue and Fracture: A Challenge for Existing and Future Steel Bridges,” at 4:30 p.m. in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland. Fisher, a pioneer in considering fatigue as a factor in bridge decay, will discuss ongoing efforts to prevent fatigue-based damage and current building practices that actually encourage it, among other related topics. He is the guest speaker for the 2011 Landis-Epic Lecture program hosted by Pitt’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. 

3/17            As part of the Pitt Asian Studies Center’s Asia Over Lunch Spring 2011 Series, Astri Ferdiana, Pitt PhD student in epidemiology, will give a lecture titled “Comparative Health Status of Women and Children in Indonesia, the Maldives, and Solomon Islands,” at noon, Room 4130, Posvar Hall, 230 S.
