Pitt to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Peace Corps

PITTSBURGH—In celebration of the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s March 1, 1961, signing of the Peace Corps Executive Order, Pitt will host an event titled “Letters From Home.” During this free public panel discussion, those who served in the Peace Corps will share their experiences. The celebration will begin at 7 p.m. March 1 in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, 650 Schenley Dr., Oakland.

The returned Peace Corps volunteers will explain why they decided to serve and their experiences during and following their years of service. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. Panel participants will include those who served in Zambia, Honduras, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Kiribati, Moldova, Panama, Samoa, Paraguay, and Malaysia.

The evening is sponsored by Pitt’s Global Studies Center at the University Center for International Studies, in collaboration with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Pittsburgh.
