10/28 Pitt’s Department of Bioengineering will host a free discussion with Jim Patrick, cocreator of the first multichannel cochlear implant and senior vice president and chief scientist for Cochlear Limited, beginning at 4 p.m. in Auditorium 5, Scaife Hall, 3550 Terrace St., Oakland. The session also will address the larger topic of biomedical engineering and recently developed devices. Patrick also is recognized as an international authority on signal processing and electro-neural interfaces. The event is cohosted by Pittsburgh’s DePaul School for Hearing and Speech as part of its Oct. 26-29 educational series on the role of cochlear implants in hearing impairment and deaf education.
