Pitt Honors College Student Publication Awarded National Program Directors’ Prize

PITTSBURGH—The Three Rivers Review, a magazine of undergraduate writing published by the University of Pittsburgh’s Honors College, is the 2010 winner of the National Program Directors’ Prize for Undergraduate Literary Magazines. 

An award given by the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, the National Program Directors’ Prize is awarded annually in the categories of design and content. Each winning magazine receives a $500 cash award. 

Content judge Denise Low-Weso of Haskell Indian Nations University selected Pitt’s Three Rivers Review for the quality of its prose and poetry. “The stories are compelling, well-plotted, and well-paced,” Low-Weso noted. “The poetry shows variety in style and admirable control of lines. The interviews—one with a fiction writer and one with a poet and alumnus—focus on the undergraduate writing experience. This contributes to the journal’s balanced exhibition of craft and art.” 

The Three Rivers Review, an annual student-run publication, is dedicated to publishing the best undergraduate fiction and poetry in the Pittsburgh area. It accepts undergraduate student writings from colleges and universities in Western Pennsylvania. The magazine’s 2010 edition will mark Three Rivers Review’s 15th publication.
