Award-winning Sol y Canto to Perform Latin Rhythms at Pitt

PITTSBURGH—The sounds of Latin rhythms will fill Pitt's Benedum Hall Auditorium, 3700 O'Hara Street, when Redwing Music recording artists Sol y Canto (Sun and Song) perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. The concert is sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS). Admission is $10 at the door and free for Pitt students with a valid I.D.
The Boston-based Sol y Canto combines rich vocal harmonies and the talents of the band's multi-instrumentalists from all over Latin America in a repertoire of acoustic vocal Afro-Latin songs and rhythms, according to CLAS. Winner of Boston Magazine's "Best of Boston" award in Latin rhythms and a Boston Music Award for outstanding Latin act, Sol y Canto is known for its mix of Latin American, Caribbean, and flamenco folk and dance rhythms and the originality of its compositions and arrangements.
In recent years, Sol y Canto has performed in venues ranging from the White House and Kennedy Center to New Mexico's Popejoy Hall and the Vancouver Folk Festival.
