The University of Pittsburgh Black Action Society to Hold Second Annual Homecoming 2001 Celebration

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh Black Action Society (BAS) will host its second annual Homecoming 2001 Celebration from Monday, Oct. 8, though Saturday, Oct. 13.
BAS will begin the celebration with a free public Dating Game, 8:30 p.m. Monday, in Pitt's Graduate School of Public Health, 130 DeSoto St., Oakland.
A comedy show featuring Michael Blackson and Damon Williams will take place at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Benedum Auditorium, 3700 O'Hara St., Oakland. Blackson has appeared on Black Entertainment Television's "ComicView" and "Live from L.A. with Michael Colyar." Williams has performed with well-known comics Chris Rock and Steve Harvey; he also has appeared on "Comedy Central", "Apollo Comedy Hour", and "ComicView." Tickets are $3 in advance, and $6 at the door.
The first Mr. and Ms. Black University of Pittsburgh Pageant will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room. The pageant will showcase leadership, intellectual ability, and talent. Tickets are $7.
"Plug Into Pitt" Network Night, a free downtown reception hosted by the African American Alumni Council, will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in Dowe's on Ninth jazz club; it has been designed as an opportunity to reconnect or become acquainted with fellow alumni. A National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Step Show Competition in Bellefield Auditorium, 315 S. Bellefield Ave., will be held that same night. For more details, contact NPHC at 412/648-7826.
The celebration's crowning event is the Mr. and Ms. Black University of Pittsburgh Coronation Ball, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, Fifth Avenue, Oakland. Tickets are $7. Admission to both the Oct. 11 pageant and the Oct. 13 ball are $10.
