DANISH ROYAL BUILDING INSPECTOR TO DISCUSS PLAN FOR NEW NATIONALITY ROOM AT PITT
PITTSBURGH, May 3 -- David Bretton-Meyer, the Royal Danish Building Inspector and architect, and Christian Gerlach, one of his associate architects, will tour the University of Pittsburgh's 26 Nationality Rooms and meet with University architects on Monday, May 14, at 10 a.m., to discuss technical details and plans for a Danish Nationality classroom.
E. Maxine Bruhns, director of the Nationality Rooms Program, and members of the Danish Nationality Room Committee also will attend the meeting to be held in the Braun Room, 1201 Cathedral of Learning.
"This is the first time a royal administration has played a role in the planning and design of the new generation of nationality classrooms," said Bruhns. "The Danish royal inspector's and his colleague's knowledge of authentic Danish history and design, coupled with their expertise and that of University architects, will help to create another jewel in the crown of existing rooms."
Room 335, the site of the Danish classroom, will be transformed to reflect a Danish farmhouse, as it would have looked before 1787, the year the University of Pittsburgh was founded.
The newly established Filstrup Family Foundation contributed substantially to the start-up fund for the room. Alvin Filstrup of Fox Chapel, board member of the Foundation, also serves as the secretary-treasurer of the Danish Nationality Room Committee.
