PITTSBURGH, Oct. 13 -- The University of Pittsburgh will recognize National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) from Oct. 15 through 21, by focusing on alcohol issues among students and providing educational material and programs throughout the campus in October.
During that week, 10 Pitt students will receive scholarships to attend the U.S. Department of Education's 14th Annual Alcohol, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention in Higher Education meeting at the Pittsburgh Hilton, downtown; "The Elite 20," a new program for students who choose not to drink, will be launched; residence halls will sponsor programs such as "Art as Awareness," in which students can submit visual art representations showing alcohol's negative impact; and Freshman Studies will devote an entire class to alcohol issues.
On Oct. 18, a "Just for You" coffee will be held for commuter students, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the William Pitt Union (WPU) Jazz Hall of Fame area, and, from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a Health Check table in the WPU lower level will feature healthy party tips including a mocktail tasting and beer goggle demonstration.
