PITT STUDENTS UNITE TO HELP THE COMMUNITY IN THE ANNUAL CAMPUS CLASSIC AND PITTSBURGH PROJECT

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 9 -- University of Pittsburgh students will hit the streets in a 5K foot race and a clean-up sweep through the Oakland neighborhoods in the annual Campus Classic and Pittsburgh Project on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14.

The Campus Classic, which is open to the public, will be held on Friday,

Oct. 13. Sponsored by Pitt Greek organizations and the Athletic Department, participants can run the 5K race or do a 3K walk. Registration for the event is at

9:30 p.m. The 5K race begins at 9:45 p.m. and the 3K walk at 10:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a United Way agency.

At 11 p.m., runners and walkers will gather for the prize ceremony at Fitzgerald Field House, followed by Midnight Madness featuring Pitt's basketball teams.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, from noon to 4 p.m., approximately 500 University of Pittsburgh students will take to the Oakland streets for The Pittsburgh Project, a one day campus-wide community service event to beautify Oakland.

Sponsored by the Student Government Board (SGB) and Student Volunteer Outreach Center, volunteers will meet in the Posvar Hall Galleria to participate in the South Oakland clean up.
