Pitt Chemistry Department Names First Distinguished Alumni Part of Celebration for 125th Anniversary
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 13 -- The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Chemistry will honor seven distinguished alumni at a dinner commemorating its 125th anniversary on Friday, September 15, at 6 p.m., in the William Pitt Union.
Honored will be Margaret Cavanaugh, staff associate for the environment, office of the director, National Science Foundation; Paul Lauterbur, professor of chemistry at the University of Illinois and a National Academy of Science member; Alfred Moye, vice president of Roosevelt University and a member of Pitt's Board of Trustees; Allen Roses, professor of medicine and chief of the division of neurology at Duke University and vice president and worldwide director for genetics at Glaxo-Wellcome; David Rossi, president and chief operating officer of Spacehab, Inc.; Michael Strem, president, Strem Chemicals, Inc.; and Ed Wallace, former distinguished service professor and chair of the chemistry department at Pitt and currently a professor of applied science and engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
The department also will hold an alumni picnic on Thursday, Sept. 14, from noon until 2:30 p.m., behind Eberley Hall in Oakland. During the picnic, a banner will be unveiled commemorating the chemistry department's 125th anniversary.
