Pitt School of Engineering Honors Outstanding Alumni

PITTSBURGH, April 28 -- Seven alumni, in professions ranging from rocket scientist to an opera administrator, were honored by the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering for outstanding contributions to their professions at the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Banquet.

David Lee Brown, a 1963 mechanical engineering graduate, was chosen as the School of Engineering 2000 Distinguished Alumnus. Six other alumni were honored by individual departments in the school.

Brown, from Santa Barbara, California, is the Chairman and CEO of Telescan, Inc., an information technology company based in Houston, Texas. A member of NASA's first lunar module engineering team, Brown remains active in the space program through Carl Sagan's Planetary Society. He was also appointed by the US Information Agency as chairman of the U.S. Science and Technology Commission for the Emerging Leaders Summit Conference series with the former Soviet Union. Brown, a former "Man of the Year" chosen by Stock Trader's Almanac, is the author of several books and articles on investing, especially in the area of on-line investing.
