PITT DEMOCRATS TO HOST DEMOCRATIC U. S. SENATE CANDIDATE DEBATE
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 10 -- The University of Pittsburgh Democrats will host a Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Debate on Saturday, February 19, at 3 p.m. in the Benedum Hall Auditorium, at the corner of Thackeray and O'Hara Streets. Candidates Tom Foley, U. S. Congressman Ron Klink, Murray Levin, Bob Rovner, and State Senator Allyson Schwartz will debate youth issues, such as access to higher education and financial aid.
The debate will consist of three sections. In the first, a five-member panel of students and faculty will pose two full rounds of questions. The candidate will receive two minutes to respond and each additional candidate will have thirty seconds for a rebuttal. The second section includes two rounds of candidate-to-candidate questions, with a two minute response time. The final section is reserved for audience questions, which will be collected on notecards throughout the course of the debate.
"This is a unique opportunity for students to interact with candidates and address the issues important to young people," said Jennifer Karch, University Democrat vice president and event organizer. University Democrats is a student organization that provides an outlet for politically motivated students to participate in Democratic campaigns and grass roots activities.
The debate is free and open to the public. For more information, call
