UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH PRESS LAUNCHES "THEN, SUDDENLY—"
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 11 -- University of Pittsburgh Writing Program Director Lynn Emanuel will read from her latest book of poetry, "Then, Suddenly—," at a poetry reading, book signing and reception on Monday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Pitt Club, Thackery Ave. at O'Hara Street.
A professor in Pitt's English department, Emanuel is author of two other books of poetry, "Hotel Fiesta" and "The Dig." "Then, Suddenly—," published by the University of Pittsburgh Press, received a pre-publication grant from the Eric Mathieu King Fund of The Academy of American Poets. Emanuel's work has been featured in the "Pushcart Prize Anthology" and "Best American Poetry" in 1994, 1995, and 1998.
Emanuel has been a poetry editor for the "Pushcart Prize Anthology," a member of the Literature Panel for the National Endowment for the Arts, and is a judge for the James Laughlin Award from The Academy of American Poets. In addition to teaching at Pitt, Emanuel has taught at the Breadloaf Writers Conference and the Bennington Writers Workshops.
Emanuel was born in New York and has lived, worked and traveled in North Africa, Europe and the Near East. She has degrees from Bennington College, the City College of New York, where she studied with Adrienne Rich, and the University of Iowa.
