TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE FOR KUNTU REPERTORY THEATRE GALA
PITTSBURGH, September 3 -- The University of Pittsburgh's renowned Kuntu Repertory Theatre will open its 25th anniversary season with a pre-gala celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, at the City Theater on the South Side.
The season will open with Lorraine Hansberry's award-winning play, "A Raisin in the Sun," co-produced with City Theater. The production features veteran New York actors Pascale Armand, Brigitte Barnett, Alvin McCray and Ray Anthony Thomas, along with local actors Andre Sharplee, Doug Pona, David Minnifield, Lyle Beatty and Darrell Cleveland, Jr. Kuntu founder and director Vernell Lillie plays the role of Lena Younger. Thomas Douglas of Los Angeles is directing this production of "A Raisin in the Sun," now in its 40th year.
Following refreshments and giveaways, the performance will begin at
8 p.m., immediately followed by coffee and dessert and a chance to participate in discussions with the director and cast.
Pre-gala musical entertainment will be provided by Emmitt Price and Thomas Chatman and is sponsored in part by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Department of Community Affairs. For more information or to purchase tickets at $30 apiece, call 412-648-2239.
