PITT OFFERS HELP IN PRESERVING FAMILY HEIRLOOMS
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 19 -- Local experts will be on hand to provide advice on preserving old photos, books, and other items at "Saving Your Family Treasures" on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Carnegie Museum, Forbes Ave., Oakland. The event is open to the public and costs only the price of museum admission.
More than a dozen tables will be set up in Sculpture Hall, with exhibits and demonstrations on preserving and repairing old books, documents and photos, as well as caring for war medals, old glassware, articles of clothing and many other family heirlooms. Lectures by preservation experts from the University of Pittsburgh, the John Heinz Regional History Center and the Carnegie will take place throughout the day in Carnegie Lecture Hall. Vendors of conservation supplies will also be present. No items from the public will be appraised.
The event is sponsored by the Preservation Working Group of the Oakland Library Consortium, which is made up of the Pitt, Carnegie Mellon
University and Carnegie Public libraries.
