BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK POSTER CONTEST
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 15 -- Pittsburgh area middle school students who want to exercise the left sides of their brains (the part that controls communications) can enter a poster contest for Brain Awareness Week, with a chance to win a $500 US savings bond.
The contest, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience, coincides with the fourth annual Brain Awareness Week, March 15-21, conducted by the Society and the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives. In addition to the savings bond, the winning artist will see his or her poster used to promote next year's Brain Awareness Week in Pittsburgh. The week will feature a town meeting and classroom visits to demonstrate the importance of neuroscience to the health and well-being of the American public.
"There are very few rules," said Eric Klann, assistant professor of neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh and co-president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. "The main goal is for the students to have fun and use their creativity to help us promote Brain Awareness Week in the year 2000."
Poster Contest Rules:
• Posters must contain the following words, prominently displayed:
National Brain Awareness Week
March 13-19, 2000
• Entries must be received by Wednesday, March 10, 1999. Late entries will not be considered.
• Posters must be no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches.
• Lettering and artwork may be hand-drawn or computer generated, in color or black and white.
• IMPORTANT: The student's name, school and school telephone number must be written on the back of each entry.
• All posters will become the property of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.
• Prizes will be awarded during this year's Brain Awareness Week, March 15-21, 1999.
• Posters must be mailed flat or rolled, not folded, to:
