CHRISTMAS CONCERT CELEBRATES TRADITIONS FROM COAST TO COAST

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 1 -- Traditional Christmas music from America and other countries will be featured at "An American Family Christmas From Coast to Coast," presented by Dear Friends, Pitt's ensemble-in-residence on Sunday, December 13, at 2:30 p.m. in the Stephen Foster Memorial auditorium, Oakland.

The songs and special readings will highlight the holiday traditions of the Chinese, Irish, African-American, Appalachian, French, and traditional American and English populations. Joining Dear Friends will be the

St. Elizabeth Girls Chorale and the Sewickley Academy Chamber Singers.

Dear Friends is a nationally recognized American music ensemble whose members recreate the charm and liveliness of bygone eras through music for piano, voice, and guitar. Their repertoire is based on music of the American home, stage, marketplace, ballroom, and public square.

Their annual concert series is presented by Pitt's Center for American Music -- dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, performance, and study of American music as well as its influence on our culture, history, and society.

Tickets for the December concert are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, and $8 for students and children. For reservations or further information, call 624-4100.
