PITT'S SYRIA-LEBANON ROOM COMMITTEE TO HONOR ROBERT G. HAZO

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 23 -- Robert G. Hazo, director of Special Seminars at the University of Pittsburgh, will be honored by Pitt's Syria-Lebanon Room Committee, the Arab-American Cultural & Education Center, and the Arab-American Medical Association at their third annual Arabic Heritage Celebration Friday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. at the Churchill Country Club.

Ambassador Clovis Maksoud, presently professor of International Relations and director of the Center for the Global South at American University in Washington, D.C., will give the keynote address.

Hazo graduated first in his class at St. John's College in Annapolis and then received a Senior Fellowship to Princeton University, a Fulbright Scholarship for study at the Sorbonne and a Rockefeller Fellowship to travel to the Middle East for study of the area's political problems.

Before coming to the University, Hazo was senior editor for political, legal, social, and economic articles in the Encyclopaedia Britannica. He also served as a consultant to the American Bar Association and as special assistant to the chairman of the National Advisory Council on Economic Opportunity.

Hazo has taught a variety of adult education seminars at the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies, and has lectured across the country. He has contributed articles and reviews to "Commentary," "The New Republic," "The Nation," "The American Scholar," "The American Bar Association Journal," "America Illustrated (U.S.I.A.)," "The Christian Science Monitor," "The New York Times Book Review," "Commonweal," "Book World," "Book Week," and "Panorama."
