9/29 - 12/11 Pitt's University Art Gallery presents: Creating a Sense of Place: Devotion Builds a Campus. The four exhibits presented are: Honoring Cultural Traditions: The 60th Anniversary of the Nationality Rooms; Heinz Memorial Chapel: Celebrating 60 Years of Light; In the Public Eye, A Century of Art and Architecture on Pitt's Campus; and Over Time: The Art of Jane Haskell. The curators for the exhibits are the students from the 1998 Museum Studies Seminar at Pitt. Frick Fine Arts, University Art Gallery, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday. 10/14 Pitt's Contemporary Writers Series continues with readings from Maxine Hong Kingston, author of two books of nonfiction, "The Woman Warrior: Memoir of a Girlhood Among Ghosts," which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for nonfiction, and "China Men" as well as a novel, "Tripmaster Monkey." 120 David Lawrence Hall, Forbes Avenue, Oakland, 8:15 p.m. Free admission. 10/15 The 2nd Annual "Day Out!", A day for fun, learning, and talking things over with grandparents who are raising their grandchildren of all ages. Made possible by The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Area Agency on Aging and partner agencies that include Pitt's Generations Together. Vintage, 401 N. 10/11 Pitt's Heinz Chapel Choir opens its concert season. The a cappella concert features "Song for Athene," by John Tavener, sung at Princess Diana's funeral, as well as other sacred and secular music and popular songs.
