PITT'S GRADUATE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS NAMES NEW ASSOCIATE DEAN

PITTSBURGH, August 14 -- David Y. Miller, former director of management and budget for the City of Pittsburgh, has been named associate dean of the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA).

Miller, who served the city from 1996 until this year, also will join the GSPIA faculty as a professor in the division of public and urban affairs.

"We are extremely pleased to have David Miller join our staff and faculty," said GSPIA Dean Carolyn Ban. "His experience in both the academic and public service arenas, coupled with his familiarity with the people of this area and the issues facing our region, will contribute greatly to the mission of GSPIA."

Prior to his position with the City of Pittsburgh, Miller was managing director of the Pennsylvania Economy League, a non-partisan, non-profit organization that provides management and applied research services for state and local governments in western Pennsylvania.

Miller also has worked as a private researcher and consultant in Maine and has held positions as administrator or manager for the following towns in that state: Sanford (1981-85), Windham (1975-79), and Dover-Foxcroft (1972-75.)

Miller, a resident of Mt. Lebanon, previously has taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels at Pitt. He received his Ph.D. in public policy research and analysis from GSPIA in 1988. His bachelor's degree in political science is from Syracuse University and his master's degree in public affairs is from Kent State University.
