DR. STEVEN BEERING TO SPEAK AT PITT'S 1998 COMMENCEMENT
PITTSBURGH, April 16 -- Dr. Steven C. Beering, president of Purdue University, will be the main speaker at the University of Pittsburgh's 1998 commencement ceremonies on Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m. in the Pittsburgh Civic Arena.
Beering is the immediate past national chairman of the Association of American Universities and a former chairman of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Before becoming president of Purdue in 1983, he served for a decade as dean and director of the Indiana University Medical Center.
He received his BS and MD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and was named a University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Alumni Fellow in 1996. A member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, he is also a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the Royal Society of Medicine.
He serves on many civic and corporate boards, including American United Life Insurance Company, Eli Lilly and Company, and NIPSCO Industries.
