CHILDREN AND OLDER ADULTS TO CREATE ART TOGETHER AT PITT

PITTSBURGH, April 15 -- Hundreds of area schoolchildren will converge on the University of Pittsburgh campus to interact with older adults in the visual, performing and literary arts in the four-day annual Intergenerational Arts Festival, Tuesday, April 28 through Friday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the William Pitt Union (WPU), 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

Sponsored by Pitt's Generations Together Artist Resource Program, the festival unites students and older artists in three daily interactive on-campus workshops ranging from folk crafts to fine arts. Students will also view live stage performances by older artists, including poetry reading, story telling, and dance.

A highlight of this year's festival will be the exhibit "OBNOVA: Renewal Through the Eyes of Bosnian Children," a compelling collection of 60 original drawings and paintings by children from Bosnia and Herzegovina, on display in the Assembly Room on the WPU main floor. That exhibit is free and open to the public. In addition, the month-long "Arts Across The Generations Exhibit," featuring work created this school year by children and senior citizens in the classroom, will be on display through May 29 in the Kimbo Gallery, also on the WPU main floor and free and open to the public.

Thursday, April 30 Grades 6 - 8

Friday, May 1 Grades 9 - 12
