LYNN EMANUEL NAMED DIRECTOR OF PITT'S WRITING PROGRAM
PITTSBURGH, April 7 -- Lynn Emanuel, poet and professor in the University of Pittsburgh Department of English, will take the reins as director of Pitt's Writing Program beginning in September 1998.
Author of three books of poetry, "Hotel Fiesta," "The Dig," and "Then Suddenly --," Emanuel received two National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Fellowships, the National Poetry Series Award, and two Pushcart Prizes.
In addition to her books, Emanuel's work has been published in "Parnassus," "Poetry," "The Hudson Review," "Poughshares," in the 1995 edition of "The Best American Poetry," edited by Richard Howard and is forthcoming in the 1998 edition of "The Best American Poetry," edited by John Hollander. She is the featured writer in the April/May issue of "The American Poetry Review."
Emanuel served as a poetry editor for the 1994-95 "Pushcart Prize Anthology" and has been a member of the Literature Panel for the NEA and the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. She is currently a judge for the James Laughlin Award sponsored by the Academy of American Poets.
Emanuel has taught at the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, the Bennington Writers Conference, The Warren Wilson Program in Creative Writing and the Vermont College Creative Writing Program.
She earned a Bachelor's degree at Bennington College, a Master's at City College of New York where she studied with Adrienne Rich, and a Master's of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa.
