Ferla-Marcinizyn Guitar Duo to Perform as Part of The Heinz Chapel Pittsburgh Artists Series Nov. 12

PITTSBURGH—The Ferla-Marcinizyn Guitar Duo, comprised of James Ferla and John Marcinizyn, will give a performance as part of the Heinz Chapel Pittsburgh Artists Series at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in Heinz Memorial Chapel, Bellefield Avenue, Oakland.

With a repertoire that spans five centuries, Pittsburgh musicians Ferla and Marcinizyn frequently perform together at various venues. They have recorded five albums, including Songs of Heart and History and Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts.

Ferla, a guitar teacher at both Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University, has spent most of his musical career in Pittsburgh. He earned the Master of Fine Arts degree in performance at Carnegie Mellon and the Master of Arts degree in musicology at Pitt. A two-time Pittsburgh Concert Society Winner, Ferla has performed with a wide number of groups outside of the Guitar Duo, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the Renaissance City Winds, and The Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble.

A member of myriad musical groups, Marcinizyn teaches guitar at Carnegie Mellon, Seton Hill University, and teaches a music exploration class at Duquesne University. He earned the Ph.D. degree in composition and theory at Pitt. Often a performing soloist, Marcinizyn also plays with the Sweet and Low Jazz Trio, Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh Playhouse Professional Company Ensemble.

Upcoming Artists Series performances are the Jan. 22 Yee-ha Chiu and Barbara O'Brien concert and the Third Annual Valentine's Concert with Daphne Anderson. The series will culminate with an April 16 performance by the University of Pittsburgh String Quartet.

Admission is $12 for all concerts with the exception of the Feb. 14 Valentine's Concert ($20). Tickets for the entire concert series are $50.
