LECTURE

11/1 David Harris of the University of Toledo will deliver a lecture titled "Racial Profiling: A Common Sense Tool for the Post-9/11 World?" at noon in the Kurtzman Room of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. This lecture is part of the Pitt School of Social Work's Center on Race and Social Problems Fall 2004 Speaker Series and is sponsored by the law firm of Buchanan Ingersoll. Lunch will be provided. 11/2 Elliot Wolfson, the Abraham Lieberman Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University, will deliver a lecture titled "Othering the Other: Polemic Images of Christianity and Islam in Medieval Kabbalah" at 4 p.m. in the Dining Room of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. 11/3 Pitt's Women's Studies Program (WSP) will host a roundtable discussion and brown bag lunch titled "Women in Leadership: A Roundtable on University Service" at noon, Room 2201, Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet St., Oakland. The panel will consist of University of Pittsburgh faculty members Patty Beeson, vice provost for graduate studies; Carolyn Ban, dean of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs; Maureen Porter, associate professor in the School of Education; Kellie Robertson, assistant professor in the Department of English and director of the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program; and Kathryn Flannery, director of WSP. 11/3 Jane McCafferty, a Drue Heinz Literature Prize Winner for Director of the World and Other Stories (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1992), and Darrell Spencer, 2004 Drue Heinz Winner for Bring Your Legs with You (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2003), will give an evening reading at 8:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. 11/3 A screening of Great Day in Harlem (1994), a documentary directed by Jean Bach, will kick-off the 34th Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, which runs until Nov. 6. This event will take place at 7 p.m. in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room. Admission is free.
