Dean Larry Davis to Sign Book, Black and Single: Meeting and Choosing a Partner Who's Right For You, Jan. 28th

PITTSBURGH—Larry Davis, dean of Pitt's School of Social Work and author of Black and Single: Meeting and Choosing a Partner Who's Right for You (Agate Publishing, 2003), will sign copies of his book at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 in the ballroom of the William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

One of the first books of its kind, Black and Single is the premier guide for African Americans seeking romantic relationships. Filled with warmth, humor, and insight, it serves as a romance and relationship tool, full of entertaining and thought-provoking examples drawn from real-life experiences. Davis, the Donald M. Henderson Professor, draws upon his extensive knowledge of social science theory and practice to help readers reconcile the conflicts, both above and below the surface, of their intimate relationships.

The book addresses a number of topics, including:

• How to determine your Romantic Market Value (RMV) and

how to "shop smart" in the romantic marketplace;

• How to tell the difference between liking, loving, and lusting;

• How to break free of traditional romantic styles;

• How to decide when—and when not—to have sex; and

• How to date and find a partner when you have children.

This is the third edition of Black and Single, fully updated with data derived from the 2000 census. The first two editions, in 1993 and 1998, sold more than 50,000 copies. Davis is the author of several academic works on interracial group dynamics and the impact of race, gender, and class on interpersonal interactions and African American families and young people.
