Advance Credentialing Instructions for Media Wishing to Cover U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Heinz Lecture Oct. 21 at Pitt

PITTSBURGH—Members of the media who wish to attend and cover the

H.J. Heinz Company Foundation Distinguished Lecture by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan at the University of Pittsburgh 2:30 p.m. Oct. 21 are required to apply for advance credentialing in compliance with the instructions in this media advisory. The by-invitation-only event will take place in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, 4141 Fifth Ave. in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Annan is expected to present a major policy address on the pursuit of increased cooperation between the United Nations and the United States and other member states in furtherance of global security and development.

The credentialing requirements are as follows:

• By Wednesday, Oct. 15, those media representatives wishing to cover the lecture must fax a request for credentialing to John Harvith, Associate Vice Chancellor for News and Magazines, University of Pittsburgh, at 412-624-1021. The faxed request must be on official news organization letterhead, list the name and position of each news representative wishing to attend and cover the event, be signed by the supervisor of the representative(s) in question, and include the appropriate e-mail address(es). Please call the University of Pittsburgh Public Affairs office at 412-624-4147 or e-mail John Harvith at the address above to alert us in advance of the transmission of your fax together with a contact phone number; if we fail to receive the fax, we will then request you to send another.

• We will inform you whether your advance credentialing request has been accepted, and, if it is, you should then plan on arriving at the Fifth Avenue entrance of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall on Oct. 21; we will alert you after your request has been accepted as to the time you should arrive. To receive your credentials and be admitted to the lecture on Oct. 21, you must present two forms of photo ID: an official ID from your news organization and a current driver's license or other official government photo ID. Complete media guidelines will be e-mailed to you in advance of Oct. 21; again, please be sure to provide us with your e-mail address(es).
