Pittsburgh Filipino Association to Hold Benefit for New Pitt Nationality Room Oct. 6
PITTSBURGH—The Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh is presenting Ballet Manila at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 to benefit the University of Pittsburgh's future Philippine Nationality Room. The event will be held at Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., in Oakland.
Ballet Manila's planned program includes internationally acclaimed award-winning choreography inspired by Filipino traditions and other selections set to contemporary music. Led by renowned prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, Ballet Manila has acted as a crucible to fuse classical ballet choreography with Filipino and Asian dance. The selections in this year's U.S. tour reflect both past and present Filipino culture and showcase the contemporary gowns of Filipina designer Auggie Cordero.
Ballet Manila also has produced such classics as Swan Lake and Don Quixote. The troupe has toured with other international ballet companies and has visited various locales internationally, including Russia, the United States, and the Philippine Islands.
Tickets are $25 and $50, or $15 for students 6- to 25-years-old, with ID.
