Pitt Jumpstart Student Volunteers Read for Peace and Understanding Sept. 11
PITTSBURGH—In commemoration of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, the University of Pittsburgh Jumpstart AmeriCorps members will read to preschool children from 3 to 5 p.m., in Lemington Elementary School's Head Start classroom, Lemington Avenue. The readings are intended to promote peace and understanding.
Jumpstart's mission is to engage young people in mentoring relationships with three-to five-year-old children to build success by developing early language, literacy, social, and initiative skills; to encourage families' involvement in their children's learning; and to inspire college students to become teachers and leaders in early childhood education.
Jumpstart is funded by PennSERVE, American Eagle Outfitters, and The Heinz Endowments, and is a part of Pitt's Student Volunteer Outreach. For more information about the program, contact Jumpstart at 412-648-JUMP.
