Pitt's School of Engineering Hosts Cooperative Education Conference
PITTSBURGH—It's the recent-graduates' Catch-22: How does one get the work experience often needed to land a first job?
A cooperative education is one solution.
Representatives from colleges and universities with cooperative education programs from across the country will gather at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel in Pittsburgh July 30-Aug. 1 for the Cooperative Education Network's annual conference, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh's School of Engineering.
Featured speakers include John Thompson, superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools, and Tom Akins, president of the Accreditation Council for Cooperative Education.
Pitt's engineering school operates one of the most successful cooperative education programs in the country: Pitt students have won two of the last three "Co-Op Student of the Year" awards presented jointly by the Cooperative Education and Internship Association and the Cooperative Education Division of the American Society for Engineering Education.
"Well over 500 students participate in our co-op program each year, and most of them get job offers upon graduation," said Maureen Barcic, director of cooperative education in Pitt's School of Engineering.
