Pitt Administrator Recognized for Work to Bring Generations Together
PITTSBURGH—James McCrea, executive director of the University of Pittsburgh-based Generations Together, has been recognized by a national organization for his work in bringing youth and senior citizens together.
Senior Service America (SSA) recently awarded McCrea with a certificate of recognition at its annual national convention at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. SSA Executive Director Tony Sarmiento called McCrea "the one individual during 2003 who has developed innovative programs nationwide designed to bring youth and seniors together."
Sarmiento praised McCrea for "developing programs with a grassroots presence to give seniors jobs that impact the lives of children and youth" and called him "a real innovator in the field."
Generations Together is an intergenerational studies program and part of the University Center for Social and Urban Research. It brings senior citizens and young people together in programs and activities that promote mutual growth and understanding. It also provides intergenerational training and program development assistance to local, regional, and worldwide organizations.
