Pitt's Library System Launches Archive For Documents on Formation of the European Union

Pitt's University Library System (ULS) has established the Archive of European Integration (AEI), an eprint repository for literature related to integration in Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries.

An eprint is the digital text of an unpublished research document that is placed in an archive as an electronic file. The AEI (http://aei.pitt.edu) makes available to the public for the first time working papers, policy papers, conference papers, and other noncommercial, nongovernmental publications pertaining to some aspect of European integration. The archive, launched with 78 papers, is accessible and downloadable to anyone, with no restrictions.

Materials submitted to the AEI must deal with one of two main themes—the movement by East and West Europe toward the resumption of the common political and cultural ties they enjoyed prior to the imposition of communist rule or the West European integration movement that resulted in the formation of the European Union, which is now on the threshold of admitting as many as 10 countries from Eastern Europe.

This is the second discipline-based eprint archive at ULS. The PhilSci Archive (http://philsci-archive.pitt.edu), which contains more than 1,100 papers related to the philosophy of science, was launched in 2001.

The AEI is hosted by the library system and cosponsored by the European Union Studies Association and Pitt's Center for West European Studies and European Union Center. It also is in partnership with the European Integration online Papers (EIoP) in Vienna, Austria. Metadata from the EIoP papers are being harvested and added to Pitt's AEI.
