Pitt's Kuntu Repertory Theatre Seeks Graffiti Artists

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's Kuntu Repertory Theatre is seeking graffiti artists who would like to see their work become part of the set design for Kuntu's upcoming production of "Hieroglyphic Graffiti," the initial offering of the 2002-2003 season, which runs from Oct. 17 through Nov. 2.
"Hieroglyphic Graffiti," written and directed by Chadwick Boseman, is a modern retelling of the ancient Egyptian myth of Ausar, featuring gods in an urban setting who have a profound impact on a modern day family.
Performances are held Thursdays through Sundays in the Seventh-Floor Auditorium of Alumni Hall (formerly the Masonic Temple), 4227 Fifth Avenue, in Oakland. Performances start Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday curtain time is 4 p.m. There will be a special student and senior citizen matinee at 11 a.m. on Oct. 31.
The selected graffiti artists will work with resident set designer Kenneth Ellis, whose professional credits include the Disney Company, Freedom Theatre in Philadelphia, and the Oakland Ensemble in California.
