PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh and its University Center for International Studies (UCIS) will celebrate the world's diversity through International Week 2002, Sept. 21-29.

A highlight of the week is a new attraction, the Gathering of Native American People, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 22 on the Cathedral of Learning lawn. Activities include Native American drumming, singing, dancing, storytelling, and demonstrations and exhibits of Native American life.

Concluding the week's activities is the 23rd annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival, which will take place from 1 p.m. to midnight Sept. 28 in the William Pitt Union (WPU) on the Pitt campus. Sponsored by Pitt's Center for Latin American Studies within UCIS, the festival features exhibits, arts, crafts, and food from Caribbean and Latin American countries. Music will be provided throughout the day, and Salsa lessons will be offered from 8 to 8:45 p.m., followed by three hours of dancing to the sounds of Orquesta Tropical.

Other International Week events include World Music at Noon, Sept. 23-27, in WPU; an African Festival, 1-5 p.m. Sept. 24 in the WPU Lower Lounge; International Fair on the Lawn, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 27, on the WPU lawn; and Scottish Games, 4 p.m. Sept. 24, on the Cathedral of Learning lawn.
