Orientation 2002 Formally Welcomes Pitt Freshmen Aug. 22 In the New Petersen Events Center with Freshman Convocation Orientation festivities begin Aug. 22 and end on Aug. 25

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh's "Orientation 2002: Your Campus, Your City, and You" introduces freshmen to campus life beginning Thursday, Aug. 22, and ending Sunday, Aug. 25, with a full slate of activities and recreation, including the formal Freshman Convocation; a trip to Heinz Field; shopping; jazz concerts; a theater production; a carnival; a softball, soccer, and volleyball challenge; tips on how to be successful in college; a student activities fair; and an introduction to campus and community services opportunities.

Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, Provost James V. Maher, and faculty and staff in academic regalia will officially welcome students at 4 p.m. Thursday during Freshman Convocation in the new Petersen Events Center. The Chancellor's picnic for students and families immediately follows the ceremony. Students will then board the 6 p.m. shuttle to the Panther's Pre-Game FanFest at Heinz Field.

Orientation 2002 ends at 7:30 p.m. Sunday with two simultaneous events: the traditional Lantern Night Ceremony in Alumni Hall's Connolly Ballroom and the Night of the Panther Ceremony in the Cathedral of Learning's Commons Room.
