Annual Pitt Conference June 19-21 to Train Participants In Intergenerational Programs
June 18, 2002
PITTSBURGH Developing successful programs that unite the old and young will be the focus of the 10th International Intergenerational Training Institute, on the University of Pittsburgh's Oakland campus Wednesday, June 19, through noon Friday, June 21. The annual conference, which attracts participants from throughout the nation and abroad, will take place at the University Club, 123 University Place.
Donna Butts, executive director of the national organization Generations United, will deliver the conference's keynote address, "A New Period for Intergenerational Programs: Purpose, Passion, and Potential," at noon Wednesday in the Members Lounge on the club's first floor.
The remainder of the conference will offer intensive interactive workshops to help human service professionals, educators, and others understand and develop intergenerational programs. Topics to be discussed include parenting grandparents, program diversity, intergenerational childcare, and an update on current research in the field. This year, the international speakers are from the University of Granada in Spain and the Nambucca Valley Community services in Australia.
Generations Together, a Pitt program of intergenerational studies, sponsors the Institute every year. The fee is $375 for the entire conference, but day rates are available. To register, or for more information, contact Institute Coordinator Joanne Dunmyre at 412/648-7150. Additional information also is available at www.gt.pitt.edu/institutes/10th_institute.htm
