Seven New Members Nominated To Serve on Pitt's Board of Trustees

PITTSBURGH—The Nominating Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees today named seven candidates for membership on the Board. The full Board will act on the nominations at its June 20 meeting.

Nominated to serve as special trustees are Bibiana Boerio, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Ford Financial in Dearborn, Mich.; Charles E. Bunch, executive vice president, Coatings of PPG Industries, who will become president and chief operating officer of PPG Industries on July 1; John P. Curran, principal of Curran Capital Management in New York City; Robert M. Hernandez, chairman of the board of RTI International Metals, Inc., in Niles, Ohio; Marlee S. Myers, partner in the business and finance section of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP and managing partner of the firm's Pittsburgh office; and William E. Trueheart, president and chief executive officer of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Additionally, Sam S. Zacharias, principal of Gateway Financial Group, Inc., was nominated to serve as an alumni trustee.

Biographical information on the seven nominees follows.

Prior to her current position, Bibiana Boerio was finance director of Jaguar Cars, Ltd., in Coventry, England. She joined Ford Motor Company in 1976 and has held a number of finance positions there in corporate finance, product development, the glass division, and in the general auditor's office. She also has held the positions of regional marketing manager for Ford Division in the northeastern United States and assistant controller for Ford Financial.

Boerio earned her undergraduate degree in retailing at Seton Hill College and the Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the recipient of Pitt's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business' Distinguished Alumni Award and was honored as a University of Pittsburgh Legacy Laureate at the University's 2002 Annual Honors Convocation.

Charles E. Bunch began his career with PPG Industries in 1979 and has held various management positions in both Europe and at company headquarters in Pittsburgh in glass distribution, purchasing, coatings, strategic planning, and corporate services. Bunch earned his undergraduate degree in international affairs at Georgetown University and the Master of Business Administration degree at Harvard University.

Prior to forming Curran Capital Management, a New York City firm that specializes in investing in health care and health research companies, John P. Curran was employed by Pfizer, Inc., and served as a Wall Street securities analyst specializing in pharmaceutical companies.

Curran earned his undergraduate degree in pharmacy at Fordham University and both the master's and Ph.D. degrees in pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh. He was honored as a University of Pittsburgh Legacy Laureate at the University's 2002 Annual Honors Convocation.

Robert M. Hernandez retired as vice chair and chief financial officer of USX Corporation prior to becoming CEO of RTI International Metals, Inc., which specializes in delivering metal products and services through the use of advanced technology. Hernandez began his career at USX in 1968, holding various other senior leadership positions there over the years, including executive vice president, accounting and finance, and senior vice president, finance and treasurer.

Hernandez earned his undergraduate degree in economics and mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh and the Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Pennsylvania.

He serves as a University of Pittsburgh appointee to the UPMC Health System Board of Directors and is cochair of the Pitt College of Arts and Sciences capital campaign. Hernandez formerly served on the Board of Visitors for Pitt's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business/College of Business Administration. He is a trustee of Black Rock Funds and a former director of QED Communications and the Central Blood Bank.

Marlee S. Myers' practice focuses on initial and follow-on public offerings, venture finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities compliance, strategic alliances, international business transactions, and general corporate counseling. She also represents companies in growth industries, such as e-commerce, information technology, and computer networking.

Myers earned undergraduate degrees in history and English literature and the

J.D. degree at the University of Pittsburgh.

Active in the Pittsburgh community, Myers is chair of the Pittsburgh Technology Council Board of Directors and founder of the Pittsburgh Technology Council's Information Technology Network. She is chair and cofounder of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and is a member of the boards of the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society and the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

Myers was named one of Pennsylvania's Best 50 Women in Business by Governor Tom Ridge in May 2000 and was the top-ranked woman in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's April 28, 2002, list, "Pittsburgh's Top 50 Business Leaders."

Prior to coming to Pittsburgh to head the Pittsburgh Foundation January 2002, William E. Trueheart was president and chief executive officer of Reading Is Fundamental in Washington, D.C., America's oldest and largest children's and family literacy organization.

In addition to having served as president of Bryant College in Smithfield, R. I., Trueheart has held faculty and administrative leadership positions at Harvard University (visiting scholar, Graduate School of Education; associate secretary to the university; and director of the Master in Public Administration Program and assistant dean, John F. Kennedy School of Government) and the University of Connecticut (dean of undergraduate academic affairs and director of the Academic Advisory Center). He has been a consultant to numerous organizations, including the United States Office of Education, the National Park Service, the Ford Foundation, the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, and the Lilly Endowment.

Trueheart earned his undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Connecticut and his Master of Public Administration and Doctor of Education degrees at Harvard University.

A public member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Trueheart is also a trustee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Foundation. He serves on the Learning Network Education Partners Advisory Board and the Nellie Mae Education Foundation Board.

Since joining Gateway Financial Group Inc. in 1983, Sam S. Zacharias has held various administrative positions in the firm, including president, senior partner, and director. Zacharias also has been a partner in Realsearch Cablevision Inc.

Zacharias earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his Chartered Life Underwriters (C.L.U.) degree and the Chartered Financial Consultant (Ch.F.C.) degree at The American College at Bryn Mawr.

He is actively involved in the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association, having served as vice president, and, for the past two years, as president; his presidential term ends on June 20. Zacharias is a community representative of the Institutional Advancement Committee of Pitt's Board of Trustees and cochair of the Pitt College of Arts and Sciences capital campaign; he has been a member of the Pitt Ambassadors program since its inception in 1986. He is a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters and past president of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
