Pitt to Host Northeast Association for Language Learning Technology Conference May 3-5 "The Language Media Center: Not Just Another Computer Lab"

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will host the annual conference of the Northeast Association for Language Learning Technology May 3-5 at Pitt's Robert Henderson Language Media Center on the Cathedral of Learning's ground floor. The conference theme is "The Language Media Center: Not Just Another Computer Lab."
There will be presentations, panels, and discussions about how better to integrate technology into language teaching and learning, including "The Web is for Everyone: Usability and Accessibility in Web Page Design," "Supporting Online Learning," "'Vous êtes Morgane…': Commercial Computer Games as French Civilization Courseware," "Atajos con Tecnologia: Shortcuts with Technology," "Pushing Oral Output Inside and Outside of the Language Lab in Advanced Oral Expression Classes," "Language Alive in a 'Low Tech' Classroom," "Archiving the Lab Experience: Electronic Portfolios and Grade Books," "Online Oral Proficiency Testing," "Beyond Lab Stations: Language Proficiency through Multimedia Instruction," and "Revisiting the 'Dark Side of the Web.'"
In addition, the conference will feature a multimedia showcase encompassing programs in German, Polish, Chinese, Spanish, English as a second language, Hungarian, Japanese, French, and American Sign Language. Conference participants will include directors of language labs and media centers from Pitt; Yale, Princeton, Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon universities; Swarthmore, Haverford, Hamilton, and Skidmore colleges; Indiana University of Pennsylvania; and the University of Notre Dame.
