Pitt Nationality Room Scholarship Winners to Travel To Exotic Locations

PITTSBURGH—The 37 University of Pittsburgh Nationality Room Summer Study Abroad Scholarship winners, who will spend at least five weeks living and studying in various exotic countries, will participate in an orientation program at

9 a.m. Saturday, March 23, in the Cathedral of Learning's Room 1228 in Oakland.

The countries to be visited are Mongolia, China, Congo, Iran, Bolivia, Lituania, and Tanzania. In addition, students will study in East and West Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, and Africa.

E. Maxine Bruhns, Nationality Rooms director, and Eileen Kiley, scholarship administrator, will conduct the Saturday orientation. Students will be briefed on travel, health, and safety concerns and obligations.

Last year's scholarship winners will discuss their experiences at 10 a.m. The group will meet with donors in Room 232 of the Cathedral for the formal presentation of checks to the recipients. In addition to the scholarship winners, invited guests will include parents and representatives from the Nationality Room committees.

Since the program began in 1948, the Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs have awarded 745 Summer Study Abroad Scholarships for a total of more than $1,145,000.
